As
of 19 July a new software update v4.7.49-01 for the Technika
SmartBox8320HD is now available, to address some of the issues that have
been identified in the software so far. In particular: Playback: •
Fix for occasional audio drop out during HEAAC-LATM audio format
decoding (BBC HD) • Fix for occasional lip-synching issue during
recording chase-playing (playback while recording in progress) •
Improvements to conditions causing occasional loss of video or audio,
while changing channels or exiting from low power stand by •
Improvements to channel toggling during dual recording (2 simultaneous
recordings). Note that you can toggle between the 2 recorded channels
either via the PiP key followed by the OK key, or by selecting the other
recorded channel via the EPG or from the LIST (or, if the two channels
are adjacent, using the P+/P- keys)
Exporting: • Due
to broadcaster restrictions, programmes from HD channels can be archived
(exported), but they can only be played back on the same SmartBox. Note
that there are no restrictions on exporting SD programmes. •
Improvements for USB exports to display an error message when export
failed (e.g., no space on device) and to resume export when possible
again • When using the HTTP interface to browse the SmartBox
recordings, when saving a recording the filename is similar to the USB
export (contains date and time, service name, and programme name). Note
that exported Freeview programmes are in native MPEG-TS format and
cannot usually be played by Windows Media Player. It is recommended to
use VLC (VideoLan) to play exported SD programmes.
Recordings: •
Numerous fixes regarding recording timers and series linking
management. Note that the recording manager does use the programme and
series information present in the broadcast and tracks the schedule
changes in order to delay the start of the recording until the programme
actually starts. Similarly, a recording will not stop until the next
programme has been signaled as "started" (except if there are more than 2
recordings overlapping, thus creating a conflict) • Improvements to
conditions causing occasional duplicate recording of same programme •
SmartBox can be put in standby mode even if a recording is in progress •
In the Digital Recorder Diagnostics, the "Delete Timeshift" command now
physically deletes the timeshift buffer. Note that it is not required
to manually delete the timeshift buffer, as the timeshift manager
automatically deletes the oldest timeshift programmes to make space for
most recent one. You may see that the green bar occupies most of the
Hard Drive, but that it's normal operation (timeshift files are
automatically discarded as necessary and don't actually waste space on
the disk) • Improvements to the HDD management to avoid corruption
which may cause loss of segments of recorded programmes
Mediaplayer: •
Improvements in media player (music) to display CD art cover and to
allow the > keys to move to the previous/next track. Note that
pressing the INFO button for 3 seconds triggers the music player screen
saver mode. Improvements in v4.7.48-16 of 21 June 2010: •
Pause key allows video to be paused (timeshift and video player) •
PiP key shows last viewed channel and allows switching back to it •
Improvements to recordings management and playback when handling
multiple recordings • New "recordings todo" list to list upcoming
scheduled recordings and series linking • The issue of loss of audio
while playing back recorded HD programmes or timeshifted HD programmes
will be resolved • when the SmartBox is in lower-power standby, the
internal fan will be stopped. • an issue with the remote control
sensitivity (auto repeat too quick) • OK key show INFO bar rather
than toggle pause/play If your SmartBox8320HD is connected to the
Internet, you should see the "SW. UPGRADE" menu item when you press
MENU. If you don't see it, restart your SmarBox and wait two minutes. Alternatively,
you can use a USB pendrive or memory stick to download the software via
your PC and to then upgrade your SmartBox8320HD.
