Lyon, France, 2 August 2011 - euronews and National Television Company of Ukraine announced the official launch of euronews in Ukrainian following an agreement signed in October 2010. NTU is one of euronews' shareholder channels.
This 11th edition (1) aimed particularly at the Ukrainian market, as well as the Ukrainian community around the globe i.e. an estimated 45 million people. (2)
Following its exclusive launch one week before on the website: on 17 August at 14:00 CET, the first broadcast will be made on 24 August 2011 at 14:00 CET, Independence Day in Ukraine, and will air 24 hours a day.
A new team of journalists
A team of 17 Ukrainian-speaking journalists are preparing the launch of the new service from the heart of the channel's head office in Lyon. The past few weeks have enabled the team to train and familiarise themselves with euronews operations alongside the office's 10 other 24-hr news teams. The new team is working hard to fulfill its mission: to provide world news from a European angle.
This new team is led by Fidel Pavlenko, appointed head of the euronews' Ukrainian Department (see the journalists' biographies later in this document)
Distribution and local advertising spots
euronews will distribute this new channel to Ukrainian viewers around the globe. For its part, NTU will distribute euronews in Ukrainian across the country.
On its launch, Ukrainian euronews will be distributed via the Eutelsat Hot Bird 6 13° East satellite, which covers the European continent and the Mediterranean basin across to central Asia.
In the context of the agreement between NTU and euronews, local advertising spots are envisaged for the Ukrainian market. This is a perfect opportunity for Ukrainian advertisers to reach influential, opinion leader targets and to develop strong brand strategies.
The launch of this 11th language service is an important step in the deployment of the channel in a promising European market.
Thanks to euronews' unique positioning and editorial line, both internationally recognized, this new euronews service will make a significant contribution to the spirit of understanding and rapprochement between Europe and Ukraine. The service will be a great launch pad for euronews to be at the heart of the action during the Euro 2012 football championship.
