AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 26, 2004--
Ascent Media Takes Its Place as Broadwing's First Customer
Using DTM Technology
Broadwing Communications LLC, a consolidated subsidiary of Corvis
Corporation (Nasdaq:CORV), today announced that Ascent Media Network
Services (AMNS) has signed a three-year agreement with Broadwing for
real-time video and file transfers over Broadwing's Media Services
Network.
The network will significantly enhance and expand AMNS' ability to
provide customers with real-time video and file transfers between the
New York, Minneapolis and Los Angeles facilities of Ascent Media
Group's three principal business segments: Creative Services, Media
Management Services and Network Services.
Ascent Media will also use the network as "a virtual teleport,"
optimizing availability across Ascent Media's facilities, as well as
providing for the seamless exchange of content. Broadwing is deploying
DTM (Dynamic Synchronous Transfer Mode) technology to Ascent Media's
premise, enabling dynamic utilization of OC-3 bandwidth and a flexible
platform capable of transporting multiple protocols such as SDI, ASI
and IP over the same infrastructure. The network will be monitored by
Broadwing's Television Operations Center in Columbia, Md.
"We were looking for a service provider who would invest time,
effort and expertise to evaluate a complex set of requirements and
provide us with a customized solution, with flexibility to grow as our
demands increase," said Francis G. Luperella, senior vice president,
Global Operations, AMNS. "Broadwing did the work. The combination of
their all-optical core Media Services Network, DTM technology and a
user interface that allows us to manage our own network bandwidth
capacity was the precise answer."
"We are delighted to have Ascent Media as a customer on the Media
Services Network and look forward to expanding our relationship with
them," said Del Bothof, vice president and general manager, Media
Services at Broadwing. "Their association with Broadwing validates our
media services approach and the value of transporting media
applications over our all-optical network. In addition, the agreement
lays the groundwork for our building relationships with others in the
media entertainment industry."
Ascent Media Network Services (AMNS) specializes in network
origination, video distribution and post-production services, with
facilities in Los Angeles, Calif.; New York, N.Y.; Stamford, Conn.;
Northvale, N.J.; Palm Bay, Fla.; Minneapolis, Minn.; London and
Singapore. Channel origination, master control, transmission and
creative services are among the many offerings utilized by the major
broadcast and cable networks as well as other content providers. In
addition, the group provides a full array of systems engineering and
technical services for broadcast, cable, satellite and corporate
clients. AMNS is part of Santa Monica, Calif.-based Ascent Media
