Aurora Sterilisation secures EUR 10.8 million in funding under the IPCEI Tech4Cure programme to accelerate the ecological transition of single-use medical device sterilisation (AcT)

Aurora Sterilisation ("Aurora"), an innovative company in the field of medical sterilisation, announces the securing of €10.8 million in grants and repayable advances. This funding, obtained under the IPCEI Tech4Cure programme and operated by Bpifrance, will enable Aurora to support medical device manufacturers in the ecological transition of their product sterilisation processes.

Aurora's cutting-edge technology addresses critical challenges in the medical sector by:

Jan Laarman, Chief Executive Officer of Aurora, states: "We are extremely proud and grateful to have secured this funding. It reflects the confidence of European and French public authorities in our technology and its ability to meet the current challenges facing the medical device industry. At Aurora, we firmly believe that the sterilisation of tomorrow can no longer be separated from the ecological imperative. Our process not only guarantees maximum patient safety, but also supports manufacturers in their transition towards more sustainable solutions, while significantly reducing the environmental footprint of sterilisation. With this new support, we will be able to accelerate the deployment of our technology among European industrial players, foster the emergence of more innovative and environmentally responsible medical devices, and make a tangible contribution to Europe's health sovereignty. This is a decisive step for Aurora, but above all for the entire healthcare value chain."

About IPCEI

Launched by France in 2022, the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) in Health aims to create a "European Health Area" by fostering the emergence of European champions in disruptive technologies within the sector. This initiative seeks to strengthen European production capacities in the health field, while stimulating the formation of ambitious European partnerships around innovative projects, thereby ensuring European sovereignty.

Coordinated by the Directorate-General for Enterprise (DGE) of the French Ministry of Finances, the project is being deployed in two complementary waves: the first, authorised on 28 May 2024, targets essential medicines and critical molecules (Med4Cure); the second, entitled Tech4Cure, is dedicated to innovative MedTech medical devices.

Tech4Cure aims to establish European-level projects covering: The lifespan of active implantable medical devices, in particular battery life as well as all components, materials and technologies designed to extend the lifespan of these devices, thereby promoting the digital and ecological transition. Connected and portable medical imaging solutions, in order to promote more compact imaging devices by harnessing the potential of AI and IoT to facilitate remote examinations and expand the available equipment base. The sustainable design of medical devices, by strengthening the ecological transition in the design of these devices, notably through the use of biomaterials and eco-design, in order to stimulate innovation in raw material sourcing and sustainability.
