Broadwing Communications Introduces Broadwing PRIorityConnect SIP; Enhances Broadwing PRIorityConnect to Support Session Initiation Protocol

Business Editors

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 15, 2005--Broadwing Communications, LLC, a consolidated subsidiary of Broadwing Corporation (NASDAQ: BWNG), today announced that it is enhancing its Broadwing PRIorityConnect product to support Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

Broadwing PRIorityConnect SIP will provide enterprise and carrier customers with a scalable, cost effective Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) aggregation solution that leverages industry-standard SIP technology

Broadwing PRIorityConnect SIP is an intra/interLATA voice service that will allow customers to originate and terminate VoIP calls to the PSTN (public switched telephone network) through Broadwing's local and long haul voice services platform.

Customers will be able to consolidate traffic from around the country to a single location for connection to the PSTN.

The addition of a SIP interface to Broadwing's service will enable customers to hand traffic to Broadwing as Internet Protocol (IP), eliminating the need for customers to purchase and maintain expensive voice gateways.

Broadwing PRIorityConnect SIP is a scalable and efficient solution that will allow customers to manage their traffic capacity with Broadwing on a nationwide basis

"In the past few months we've seen tremendous demand from enterprises and VoIP carriers for a native SIP interface between their networks and the Broadwing network.

Broadwing PRIorityConnect SIP will provide the ideal link between Broadwing's powerful local service infrastructure and the next generation VoIP networks our customers are developing," said Mark Pugerude, senior vice president of Marketing and Business Development at Broadwing Communications

With the addition of SIP to its Broadwing PRIorityConnect offering, Broadwing is leveraging its IP technology to enable a full suite of traditional voice applications, VoIP, 911 and enhanced 911 services.

Customers will have the option to bundle Broadwing PRIorityConnect SIP with other Broadwing private line services, thus simplifying vendor management by using Broadwing as their provider for multiple services and support
