Europlasma: South Korea vitrification unit successfully commissioned (AcT)

Europlasma, the French Group specialized in clean technologies and renewable energy production, is announcing the successful commissioning of the vitrification furnace within the sludge incineration plant of Yongin City, South Korea.

The vitrification unit of this plant has been designed to process approximately 5,000 tons /year of ash coming from water treatment sludge. It is equipped with a 1.2 MW plasma torch. The plant was put in operation in early September and its operating performance has now been approved.

The operating start of this unit is the final step of a process initiated in 2007 with the signature by Europlasma and KESCO (Kolon Environmental Service Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Kolon group) of a licensing agreement for ash vitrification know-how. This agreement had been followed in early 2008 by the order of a technical study related to the dimensioning of a vitrification furnace for ash coming from sludge incineration as well as the sale of two plasma torches.

For Didier Pineau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Europlasma, “the successful commissioning of this vitrification unit is yet another proof of the reliability and efficiency of Europlasma’s technology, which is already in operation in four municipal solid waste incineration plants in Japan”.
