How to do Business with Japan and Korea?

What are the business needs of Japanese and South Korean? In two new episodes of "Business Planet", reporter Serge Rombi goes to Japan and South Korea to discover the keys success for SMEs trying to enter these markets.

Lyon, France, 20 March 2014 - In these two new episodes of Business Planet, the spotlight is on the success stories of two European SMEs innovating in new energy. They both made their entry on the Asian market through an EU funded programme: the EU Gateway programme which aims to help European businesses in their understanding of the Japanese and South Korean markets.

In the post-Fukushima area, Japan is focusing on new and renewable energy and energy saving measures. , a leading Dutch company in energy management solutions and lighting and appliances control, has seized this great opportunity. Thanks to the Gateway programme, in a short time, the company was able to supply the Japanese market increasing both its export sales and turnover. Now, Plugwise is in direct talks with the biggest Japan utility company.

Japan is the EU's 3rd most important partner and the 3rd biggest world market (GDP 2012).

"Kick-start Korea" on air from Saturday 5 April

The South Korean government aims to meet 11% of its energy needs through New and Renewable Sources (NRS) by 2030 and considers NRS a growth engine.  Understanding this objective, responded to the government's call. The German company develops a technology for non-contact handling of fragile products, targeting the photovoltaic industry among others. With EU support, ZS-Handling has now increased its turnover, its sales and its staff and has a local presence thanks to a representative in Korea.

Korea is the EU's 10th largest trade partner and European companies are the main investors in what is the world 15th biggest economy (GDP 2012).

About Serge Rombi

                                           

Serge Rombi, a French journalist, joined Euronews in 2007. In 2012, he launched Euronews' "Business Planet" programme, devoted to European SMEs. Previously, Serge pursued a career primarily in radio then in television (CFI, BFM, Chérie FM...). Serge graduated from the Ecole Supérieure de Journalisme of Paris and has a degree in Business Administration from the University Paris I Sorbonne.
