(BW)(VA-GENESYS-CONFERENCING)(GNSY) Genesys Survey Says Most Workers Consider Meetings to Be Useful -- But They Have Lots of Ideas for Improvement
Business Editors/High-Tech Writers
RESTON, Va.& MONTPELLIER, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct.1, 2004-- 25% Would Rather Go to the Dentist Than Attend a Boring Meeting
Contrary to the popular belief that company meetings are a bane to the existence of today's over-worked society, results from a recent online omnibus survey of over 1,000 participants show that there is in fact an important place for them.
The survey, sponsored by Genesys Conferencing (Euronext:3955) (Nasdaq:GNSY), a global multimedia conferencing leader, suggests that meetings, if done quickly and efficiently, would actually be embraced by those who plan and attend them
"We weren't surprised that most workers recognize the importance of meetings for getting the information they need to get their work done," commented Denise Persson, EVP of Global Marketing at Genesys
"But we clearly heard a call for building a better meeting process that can both cut the time one spends in a meeting, and make them more useful and efficient.
We see strong demand for what we like to call 'speed meetings.'"
The Survey Says: There's Hope for Meetings!
While nearly 70% of respondents admitted that less than half of the meetings they've attended in the last six months were worthwhile, survey data suggests meetings have their place
-- if they're done right
-- Nearly 80% of those surveyed found team meetings to be useful for getting and sharing the information they need
-- 7 in 10 workers want meetings that are better organized
-- 44% of the respondents wished for faster meetings
-- 80% believe they would be good at planning and executing an enjoyable and productive meeting
The Meeting Alternative: Mowing the Lawn(R)
While workers value effective meetings, they would do just about anything to get out of attending an ineffective one.
When asked what they would prefer to do instead of sitting through a boring meeting:
-- 54% of those polled said they would rather mow the lawn
-- 41% said they would rather wash the kitchen floor
-- 25% said they would prefer a trip to the dentist
"The Donald" Trumps Other Celebrity Meeting Planners When asked who people thought would be best at running an effective meeting:
-- Donald Trump easily outdistanced all competitors with 46% of the vote
-- Barbara Walters scored second place at 24%
-- President Bush came in third with just under 15%
-- Arnold Schwarzenegger trailed at 9.3% For More Information or a Genesys Executive Interview:
